Going Down Blues (jazz poetry)

Spilled milk

Count me in
baby
sing
we're going
down
down

Down into red blues
down where
nightmares can't dream

Pitch the canned heat
keep the beat
slick licks
burning through
jelly rolls
riffing

Tangle in my dark
baby
black cat bone
drumming skin
down

We rain harmony
syrup
dusting your broom
wash it
down
simmer down jam
jamming
you free

Rhythm going liquid
milk spilling
down
honey
going down
blues

~Nara Malone

This is my contribution to G-man's Friday 55 and dVersePoets Meeting the Bar.

I'll confess. I tried and tried to beat this down to 55. The best I could do was 69. I tried to beat it down to jazz, but it came out blues.

  4. Nara Malone...?
    You are such a Vixen!
A talented and sensual and Hot one at that!
    I just love double entendre.
    If I can't get a 55 out of you, I'll settle for 69!
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End

  5. Tsk. Don't you know you can't beat down the blues? They're already down with it.

  6. Now that is a sizzlin' 69 - you can save the 55 for next week! I'm quite taken with the "Tangle in my dark baby" stanza! Wow.

  8. Sensual and blue-ey. The repeating of 'down' gave it a nice feel. I enjoyed reading it.

  10. And a very nice, sensuous, wailing blues tone it has to it, too! There is a sort of downward rhythm to it, as if it's being dragged to the floor. Perfect for the atmosphere!

  11. This is downbeat, sultry, musical, heavy. I see a dark jazz club, a singer wrapped around a microphone, a snare drum whispering underneath a brush....

  13. Hey honeypie the blues is jazz. This is fine, sinuous, sensual, and definitely JAZZY. Sometimes 55 is a hard number to fit, but this sings to me. Thanks for hanging at the party Nara!

  14. Great flow and rhythm, and the words couldn't fit the theme better, however many you used.

  15. Somehow I don't think G-Man would mind 69...ummmm...words. Especially this because they're so silky and rhythmic and beautiful.
